Banyan Community is a Christian Community Development Organization that builds relationships and improves the lives of both youth and adults living in Phillips neighborhood of South Minneapolis.
Banyan’s work is imperative because of the community need. There are 1,713 families in East and Midtown Phillips. In our neighborhood 52% of all children live in poverty. The City of Minneapolis four-year high school graduation rate is 64% and drops to 52% for African American youth and 57% for Latino youth. The median family income is $41,200. The unemployment rate is 14% and the poverty rate is 35%.
